Friends of School Association

Our Mission Statement

We are very fortunate at our school to have a Friends of School Association that is and has been such an integral part of the school community for many years.

Over the years the Friends have raised thousands of pounds for the school which has been spent on improving equipment and resources to enhance our children’s education, school trips which the children love, and any other things that the staff at school feels would benefit the education of the children. Our most recent purchase are two Guinea Pigs (Dandelion and Burdock) and their new house, so all the children at school can enjoy and benefit from the love and affection given from the pets.

Our Friends Committee is a lot more than just fundraising. We aim to provide a link between home and school, and it is an excellent way of bringing the staff and parents closer together so we all feel like one huge team, all working towards the same goal.

We like to have fun. We meet once every eight weeks or so to discuss and plan events to raise money for the school, we plan what we can buy or fund for the school to make improvements, or even just an added fun activity for the children. Last year we helped pay for the Pantomime to come to school and treat the children to a fun filled afternoon which they all absolutely loved! We are hoping to make this an annual treat for them all.

Myself, as Chair of the Committee, and also a parent, just want to do all I can for the school to improve learning and resources for all the children, and most importantly to help them all just have fun. The children at our school are such a pleasure and its so rewarding to see them all having so much fun at the discos, fairs and events that we run. Our children’s discos are run with the aim of giving the children a good time and as a way of thanking families for their continued support to the Friends.

At times it is challenging and a bit stressful, but when we are all working together and for such an amazing school, it is all worthwhile and we always get such a positive outcome from everything we do. As an integral part of the school, we are extremely conscious of the ethos and morals of our school, and we try very hard when organising and planning events to respect this.

Everyone is welcome at our meetings, it’s not all serious, we do have a laugh and a giggle and have developed a great friendship together. If you think you would like to come to a meeting, even just to listen to what we are planning or get involved then please contact myself or Dan or drop into the office and they can pass a message on. We’d love to see you!

Our parent teachers association (FOSCPS) is always enthusiastic about gaining new ideas, support and solutions to support Skelton Primary School, so if you have any ideas about fundraising or ways we could improve, but may not have thought of feel free to reach out to us…
