Admission Arrangements

Skelton Primary School is a welcoming and friendly place where learning is at the heart of everything we do. We have a school nursery for 3-4 year olds and classes from Reception to Year 6. We are part of the Hope Sentamu Learning Trust, which means we have high ambition, and access to wider opportunities for our children.

We want your child to be happy, build their self-belief, and succeed in their learning while they are with us. Skelton aims to provide a caring, supportive and safe environment in which your child can develop and learn as part of their life-long learning journey. We want your child to know their talents and have ambition for their future.

We understand that choosing a school for your child is an important decision for a child’s future. We welcome you to visit the school at any time. A visit can be arranged via our main reception. We currently have a 20 place Reception class each year.

The City of York Council co-ordinate all our admission arrangements and further information can be found here.

In-year Admissions

Local Authority’s Co-ordinated Admission Scheme

Skelton Primary School participates in the Local Authority’s Co-ordinated Admission Scheme for in-year admissions. If parents/carers wish to apply for a school place, applications can be made at https://www.york.gov.uk/SchoolAdmissions via the ParentPortal. The Local Authority will confirm the outcome of the application in writing within 15 school days.

If the application is refused, the Local Authority will advise on the statutory appeal procedure. Details of the Co-ordinated Admission Scheme and how in-year applications are managed are available at https://www.york.gov.uk/SchoolAdmissions.

Admissions Consultation

All admission authorities must formally agree their admission arrangements every year, even if the arrangements have not changed from the previous year. When changes are proposed, a consultation has to take place, which will take the views of parents and other interested parties into account.

This year’s Admissions Consultation is being jointly held by all admissions authorities in the City of York between 4 October and 14 November 2021. The consultation includes the draft admission policy and planned number of places available at each school in the year(s) of entry.

All documents can be found in their draft (pre-determined) form here.

The views of parent/carers, schools and other interested parties are being sought during this consultation.

To respond, parents/carers can email admissionsconsultation@york.gov.uk or complete the short survey hereThe survey can also be found here

Following the consultation, each admission authority will formally set (‘determine’) their admission arrangements for admission in 2023-24 by 28 February 2022. Determined policies will be on the City of York Council website by 15 March 2022 after which objections can be raised.

If you require a paper copy of the document or survey you can request this from the school or Trust or education@york.gov.uk or 01904 551554.
